At this time, Canadian dentists and their teams have not been provided enough information from the Federal Government to allow us to understand how the new Canadian Dental Care Plan will be run, and how it will affect our offices, patients, and staffing. In fact, we are finding that patients are being provided more information from the government than we, the service providers! This makes for a very frustrating situation because who wants to sign a contract they don't understand! This is why the number of dental offices who have signed on to the program across Canada is less than 5%!
Our hope is that by May 2024, the government will be able to answer the basic questions/concerns that service providers have about how the program is to be administered, and how that will affect our ability to provide care to our patients. We also need to understand how this program will affect our staffing requirements, as most dental offices are already understaffed with little to no ability to hire due to shortages.
Our hope is that the program can provide much-needed services to Canadians who need oral care. However, we cannot provide these services without first understanding how the program will work, and how it will affect our team, and our existing patient family. Therefore at this time, Wolfville Dentistry has NOT signed on to the program.
We thank you for your understanding during this frustrating time. Please do not call the office to express your displeasure about this situation. Instead, feel free to talk to your Member of Parliament and let them know your dental office is not able to provide your care as the program currently stands.
