Dr. erin hennessy
Dr. Erin Hennessy was born in northern New Brunswick but moved to Kingston, Nova Scotia as a young girl. A small-town “preacher’s kid”, Dr. Hennessy grew up in a family that instilled the importance of a strong commitment to community. After high school, she moved to New York City to study Musical Theatre, where she also worked in anti-poverty initiatives in her neighborhood. When she returned to Nova Scotia she completed a Bachelor of Arts followed by a Bachelor of Education, both at Acadia University. She was a founding member of the Original Cast Theatre Cooperative, where she helped to develop educational theatre tours for the Canadian Red Cross and the Canadian Mental Health Association. She taught Grades Primary/One and Grade 5 before returning to University to pursue a dental degree.
Dr. Hennessy graduated as Valedictorian from Dalhousie University’s Faculty of Dentistry in 2004. She was proudly awarded the Canadian Dental Association President’s Award “presented to the graduate who has shown the most outstanding qualities of leadership and character, and who may be expected to become a leader in the dental profession, the dental community, and society at large”.
Following dental school, Dr. Hennessy worked as a Dental Officer in the Canadian Forces with postings to CFB Kingston and CFB Halifax (Stadacona and Shearwater).
In 2008, Dr. Hennessy and her family returned to the Annapolis Valley where she is now the principal dentist/owner of “Wolfville Dentistry”.
Dr Hennessy has been an active volunteer in regional, provincial and national organized dentistry and holds various positions with both the Nova Scotia Dental Association and the Provincial Dental Board of Nova Scotia. She is Past-President of the Nova Scotia Dental Association, and a member and Past-President of the Annapolis Valley Dental Society. She leads the “AVDS Cares” initiative in which Valley dentists and volunteers collaborate as a community to provide dental treatment for
patients with barriers to care. In 2020, she was honoured to be awarded the NSDA Community Service Award. She has been inducted into the International College of Dentists, the Pierre Fauchard Academy, and The American College of Dentists.
In her spare time, Dr Hennessy is passionate about her volunteer work as Chair of the Board of L'Arche Homefires in Wolfville.
